The 2019 South and Southeast Asia Commodity Expo and Investment Fair (SSACEIF) will be held in Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan Province on June 12-18. Yunnan was a famous stop along the Ancient Silk Road and the Ancient Tea Route, linking China with many countries around the world. Today, with its favorable location at the juncture of the economic rings comprising China, Southeast Asia and South Asia, and as a window and gateway for communication and business activities, the province continually highlights its advantages in connecting China with other countries in the region. Zhang Guohua, Deputy Governor of the Yunnan Provincial People's Government said that Yunnan obtained a rapid development that coincided with China's reform and opening up. Since the late 1970s, its annual GDP grew by an average of more than 9 percent, while revenue grew by an average of 7.1 percent annually and the actual utilization of foreign capital climbed to 65 billion yuan ($9.71 billion). Its bilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanism with South Asia and Southeast Asia has become a model of regional cooperation. A promotional event for the 2019 SSACEIF and the Second China-South Asia Cooperation Forum were held in Beijing on February 28 ahead of the expo in June. Themed, Gathering in the Frontier of Opening Up, Jointly Building a Radiation Center and Sharing Prosperity and Development, the SSACEIF will provide 17 pavilions for exhibitors from participating countries to convert their economic complementarities into a driving force for development, promote investment and consumption, and create more jobs. Due to its location, Yunnan has also provided a new channel for further strengthening communication, enhancing partnerships, deepening mutual benefits and expanding people-to-people exchanges with countries along the Belt and Road routes, Wu Zhengping, head of the Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce said. With the deepening of cooperation based on the Langcang-Mekong Cooperation mechanism, the China-Indochina Peninsula economic corridor, the Bangladesh-China-Myanmar economic corridor and other cooperation mechanisms, the regional cooperation between China and South and Southeast Asia will definitely gain greater momentum in the future.
